Butter Me Up! – Ellovi Body Butter review

Ellovi Body Butter Review

Ellovi Body Butter

I am a huge supporter and fan of natural skincare, makeup and body care. During the beginning of my journey of healing, dietary and lifestyle changes, I went to great lengths researching and educating myself about eating well and taking care of my body (I still do). After awhile, I decided to address skincare. I learned that what you put ON your skin (the outside) is just as important as what you eat (the inside).   To me, it was a real eye-opener! I look at everything I put on my skin and decide if it is something I would be willing to eat.  Why you ask?

Our skin is the LARGEST organ of the body.  What you put on it or come into contact with, the skin absorbs, assimilates and processes right into the bloodstream going full circle throughout the body.  Did you know that the commercial body care industry is one of the leading toxic industries in the WORLD? The very products that we shop our grocery stores and malls for consisting from hygiene, shampoo, soap, makeup, skin and body care are actually extremely toxic to our bodies in the way of carcinogens!  Synthetic chemicals, found in conventional body care products, are harmful to the human body and our planet.

There are over 10,000 chemicals used in personal care products including: carcinogens, reproductive toxins, endocrine disruptors, phthalates, nitrosamines, lead, heavy metals and formaldehydes. Parabens, used as preservatives in almost all products, are designed to kill cells and prevent growth of bacteria and fungi. Manufacturers may use almost anything as an ingredient and market products without the FDA’s approval. Some chemicals are allowed only at certain levels, but these levels accumulate from using many products containing chemicals. (source) Pretty scarey, right!?

It means the choices we make today are going to have a real impact on the way we’re going to live our lives tomorrow, especially with these kinds of products that we use daily, over 10 to 30 years or our whole lives. So even though it’s a small quantity of use, it’s chronic exposure. And that is all it takes.

Want to avoid applying known carcinogens to your skin and hair?

Can a Product be Carcinogen-Free?

ABSOLUTELY!

I was recently contacted by Kelly Winterhalter, founder of Ellovi, to sample and review her natural body butter. She mentioned there were only 6 ingredients in the product. I did a quick review of the website and I said “Yes, please!” ~ Hands clapping in excitement ~

Ellovi is a company founded on the grounds of integrity, ethics and offering the finest quality ingredients from around the world in a single product that TRULY delivers.  They are passionate about crafting pure and nutritional skincare products from plants.  My kind of company! Over the years, I have tried many organic, natural, eco-friendly products and Ellovi body butter is one of many that I can honestly claim THIS IS IT!

Ellovi Body Butter is an intensely hydrating body moisturizer made from macadamia nut, coconut, marula nut, hemp seed, and shea. There are no synthetic ingredients, preservatives, parabens, or other secret ingredients.

From the Ellovi website:

What’s really special about Butter is that we don’t add water. That means it’s highly concentrated, can’t evaporate like other moisturizers, and we don’t need preservatives. Butter soaks in deep and moisturizes your skin better from the inside out. Even after washing your hands or bathing, Butter will keep your skin intensely hydrated and nourished for days.

This is all true!  I can usually moisturize after a shower and the next day or so upon cleaning again will need to re-apply.  I don’t have to do this with Ellovi Butter. My skin stays hydrated and happy.  I have used it all over my body – head to toe (elbows, hands, legs, face, feet, hair).  Yes, hair! I have used a small amount and rubbed into my palms and applied by gently squeezing to the ends of my hair (before drying or after, as needed).  Great moisturizer and leaves a healthy sheen to hair.  Oh, yeah, it’s also a nice personal lubricant.  Say no more.

I use this luxurious butter on my face as a moisturizer, around my eyes and it doesn’t clog my skin (mine is sensitive) and give me pimples.  My skin looks fresher and clearer.   It has actually started to heal some old scars on my face and body.  Woohoo!

Ellovi body butter is also safe to use on pets.  It helped clear up a rash on my dog, Meg’s back in just a day.  Score!

You don’t need to use a lot of it, unlike many body butters.  So a little goes a long way and the jar will last longer than most other butters.  It spreads nicely and evenly. It is ultra hydrating and light.  It isn’t greasy or heavy like many other butters.  Ellovi has a fresh light scent – ever so subtle – so it won’t interfere with anything else you are wearing or great for sensitive folks like me.

So what are the 6 wonderful ingredients (all wildly harvested):

  • Macadamia Nut – Full of youth enhancing fatty acids that are naturally present in young skin
  • Coconut – Provides proteins, amino acids, and vitamins that revitalize skin
  • Marula – Used in Africa for thousands of years as an anti-aging regimen
  • Hemp Seed – Loaded with antioxidants that cleanse skin of environmental toxins
  • Shea – Considered sacred by ancient African natives for its natural healing powers

Ellovi body butter is an all-in-one product for skin, hair and body.  I LOVE it and hope you take the opportunity to try it out for yourself.  Packaging was beautiful, simple and the jars are reusable.  Oh yeah, FREE SHIPPING!

Just as I teach and promote with education of food – The best way to change your “toxic load” is to be aware of the products you are using by reading the labels and knowing the ingredients.  Check your skin care products at www.ewg.org/skindeep to see how they rate. Reducing the number of products you use is also an effective way to lower your exposure to unwanted ingredients. Simplify, baby!  Again, my philosophy –  if you wouldn’t eat it, don’t put it on your skin. Using paraben-free, chemical free, holistic skin care is key.  Either purchase from reputable companies such as Ellovi or make them yourself (DIY).  I do both!

Thank you Kelly for offering me the opportunity to try your body butter.  You’ve got a new customer and I look forward to trying your Lip Butter soon – luxury on the lips!  Kelly is a real sweetheart and feel free to contact her with any questions at Ellovi.com.

I was not paid for this review. This was purely an honest assessment about a product that I feel passionately about and use myself.  I wanted to share with you!

  1. Thanks for sharing Kibby, sounds like a wonderful product and the prices of the body butter and the lip butter are very reasonable. I have an arsenal of chemically laden products I am currently using and for what I paid for them I feel obligated to finish them up. I know stupid but I do have a budget. However as I run out of products I am going to do my best to replace them with healthy choice. I just ordered Tata Harper’s Be Adored lip treatment and my next purchase is going to be soapwalla as I am getting low on deodorant. Once I use up my current stock of body butters and lotions I will try Ellovi. I always value your opinion, thanks.
