IMPERIAL TONICS – Ancient Wisdom Tonic Blend

If you don’t know me already, I LOVE herbal tonics!  They are one of my passions and I love creating healing recipes with these special, ancient herbs that nourish, tonify and heal the body with consistent use.  While using foods and basic nutrients to improve health has always been captivating, I now see that part of the future really lies in the world of herbalism (going back to my roots).  My passion is no longer disease prevention, but health optimization ….. how good can I really feel and BE!?

So while the Western model of thinking is rooted in disease and disease-prevention, the Eastern model is focused on longevity, vitality, rejuvenation and enhancing our true energy body on both a physical and spiritual level.  I’ve given you several recipes and videos showing you how to make some of my favorite blends.   Check them out.

Today, I have a real treat for you!  A few months ago, I was approached by Imperial Tonics creator/founder, Marcus Schneider to test and review his new product – Ancient Wisdom.  Upon reading the label, I was IN.  It had some of my favorite tonic herbs ALL IN ONE BOTTLE – Brilliant!   The bottle has 60 servings (with a small scoop enclosed inside – dig deep – it’s in there).  Marcus is the MOST amazing, friendly, kind and supportive guy.  He has answered ALL my questions and is very dedicated at providing a superior product.

I don’t promote or recommend ANYTHING that I haven’t tried myself or think it is worthy to share with you all.  This tonic blend IS WORTHY!!  I have used this blend daily in my tonics and smoothies and am pleased with the results.  Again, tonic herbs are not a quick fix.  Tonic herbs are by definition herbs that safely promote ones health and healthy aging through regular consumption.

“Tonic herbs are defined as “herbs that promote a long, healthy, vibrant, happy life, without side effects, even when taken over a long period of time.  Essentially, the tonic herbs are wonderful, healthful “super-foods” which benefit our well being in ways that more common foods cannot. They have a protective, balancing, vitalizing quality beyond that of any other herbs. They are generally consumed as a supplement to a well balanced healthy diet for the purpose of completing our nutritional needs and enhancing our nutritional profile.   The tonics are used to promote over-all well being, to enhance the body’s energy, and to regulate the bodily and psychic functioning, to protect the body and mind so as to create what the Chinese call “radiant health.” (source)

Another thing that I am passionate about are SMOOTHIES!  So, it was a matter of time to put two of my passions together:  TONIC SUPERFOOD SMOOTHIE!!  Oh, yeah!  This is a fantastic way to get the best of both worlds that digest and assimilate easily, feed/fuel the body, mind and Spirit and tastes AMAZING!  Tonics and smoothies BOOST your immune system, strengthen the body, cleanse all major organs and MORE – Scott and I drink them DAILY and we don’t get sick anymore – our immune systems are STRONG and are able to fend off any critters or bugs that we might come in contact with.  Before I give you the recipe I make frequently, I have more information about the ingredients in ANCIENT WISDOM.

I’m a research nerd and like sharing information with you.  Information and knowledge are powerful.  So, here is extra background information about these tonic herbs so YOU are aware of what you are taking and what to look for on your own health journey.

Reishi

Reishi is my FAVORITE tonic herb!  Reishi Mushroom is a tonic herb for cultivating Spiritual energy, modulating immune function, and promoting health, longevity, and peace of mind.  Reishi mushroom, also known as the “Mushroom of Immortality” and the “Herb of Good Fortune” is considered by many to be the quintessential tonic herb because of its ability to nurture all Three Treasures (Jing, Qi, Shen).  It is an adaptogenic and longevity herb that helps to support and regulate immune function, protect the cardio vascular system, and support and protect the liver. But perhaps its greatest function is that of a Shen tonic. It is unrivaled in its ability to open the Heart, calm the Spirit, and connect you to your higher self. It enhances wisdom and supports spiritual evolution and insight.

Schizandra

Schizandra fruit, from the plant Schisandra chinensis, is “the herb that does it all.”  Schizandra is said to help purify the blood, support the mind, help maintain a strong memory, and help maintain sexual energy and sexual functions in both men and women.  Though Schizandra is believed to benefit all the functions of the body, it has traditionally been considered to have the most influence on the Kidney, Lung and Liver functions.  Read more about this amazing tonic herb HERE.

Goji berry

Goji berries, a.k.a. Lycium Fruit or Wolfberries, from the plant Lycium barbarum, have been considered to be a “magical” longevity herb and superfood since the dawn of Asian civilization. To this day Goji is revered in Asia for its youth preserving, health protective, strengthening, and mood-supporting properties.  Evidence supports the traditional notion that consuming Goji berries regularly can help support cardiovascular health, support the functions of the pancreas and liver, support immune functions, support eye health, support mood, and help increase and sustain libido.  Goji berries are a super antioxidant food and I eat a small handful daily in my smoothies (toppings).  Read more about this lovely dried fruit HERE.

Astragalus

Astragalus root provides quick energy, supports the immune system, helps digestive function, and is considered one of the most important longevity tonic herbs.  It is one tonic herb that I keep in stock in my own pantry.  Astragalus is said to have an effect on the “surface” of the body — that is, it is used to tonify the “Protective Qi,” known as Wei Qi in Chinese. This Protective Qi is a special kind of energy which circulates just under the skin and in the muscle.  Protective Qi circulates in the subcutaneous tissues providing suppleness to the flesh and adaptive energy to the skin.  Wei Qi is the energy of the skin and immune system, in harmony, that responds to changes in the environment.   It is ideal for anyone that has low energy, low immune function, or weak digestion.  As an energizer, Astragalus is famed for its strengthening effects on the outside of the body, in particular to the musculature. It is therefore beneficial in particular to younger adults, who tend to be physically active and require abundant external energy. Astragalus is used to strengthen the legs and arms, and is commonly used by people who work outdoors, especially in the cold, because of its strengthening and warming nature.  (Count me IN!)

He Shou Wu

He Shou Wu, (also known as Fo-ti or Polygonum multiflorum) is one the premiere Superior class tonic herbs.  Legend has it that it can return an aging person to his or her youthful years. It builds essence, builds blood, and enhances fertility for men and women alike. It is also used in formulas for supporting hair growth.  He Shou Wu has also been shown to increase the body’s level of SOD (superoxide dismutase), a critical antioxidant that the body produces to fight free radical damage. SOD helps the body maintain proper cellular function and replication with protection against DNA damage.
